RADGEBER

a workbook on the transportation of the future

Welcome to RADgeber, where innovation meets transportation. Our journey begins in Augsburg, Germany, a city with a rich history and a vision for the future. As urbanization accelerates and mobility patterns evolve, we recognize the need for transformative change in how we move people and goods. Join us as we embark on a journey to revolutionize transportation and make our city more accessible, sustainable, and vibrant than ever before.

  • The transportation landscape in Augsburg presented numerous challenges, from outdated infrastructure to inefficient traffic management systems. Traffic trials serve as crucial gap fillers, promoting equal road use and strengthening understanding among traffic participants. However, despite the city's potential for innovation, progress towards future-oriented solutions was hindered by a lack of cohesive communication strategies, that resulted in frustration among traffic participants. Traffic trials were perceived as a hindrance, rather than a possibility for improvement. Recognizing these barriers, we sought to reframe the problem by emphasizing the importance of effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders. Our aim was to unburden and empower municipal staff to take ownership of transportation initiatives and drive meaningful change from within.

  • Our approach to solving the transportation challenge was rooted in collaboration and innovation. Through a series of workshops, interviews, and stakeholder engagements, we gathered insights from city officials such as the civil engineering department, the green space department and the marketing department of the city of Augsburg, as well as cycling enthusiasts and other participants of traffic. Traffic trials play a central role in our approach, showcasing achievements and successes in the transformation of the road network as a participatory process. Armed with industry-standard practices such as Design Thinking and Service Design, we've developed a dynamic toolkit – the RADgeber workbook – to empower municipal staff and drive meaningful change from within.

  • The RADgeber workbook is the culmination of our efforts – a comprehensive guide to future-oriented transportation improvements in Augsburg and beyond. With its modular structure, comprising four booklets, and interactive design, RADgeber equips municipal staff with the tools and resources they need to champion change within their communities and encourages them to take control of the conversation around these goals. The focus of the entire process is on the humans involved. The RADgeber is not a fixed manifesto, but a companion for the transformative process.

  • The accompanying campaign exemplifies the ideas developed in the RADgeber. Targeted communication strategies (analogue and digital) – tailored to the respective stakeholders – are assigned to the defined phases and implemented based on a detailed roadmap. Make Cycling Great Again!
